Day-to-Day Life
A typical day starts around 6:30 AM with team rounds where residents review overnight events and set the plan for each patient. If you're assigned to the OR, you'll prep your rooms, coordinate with the surgical team, and work side-by-side with your attending through their case list. If you're not in the OR that day, you'll be evaluating new consults, running the orthopedic surgery clinic, and maintaining the inpatient service. One added benefit to the program is coverage from our invaluable PAs, who address any concerns on our orthopedic floor.

PGY-5: Handling all cases and running your own room with appropriate attending oversite while at NUMC.
Long Island provides many different cities to live in. Majority of the residents live within suburban towns in Nassau or Suffolk County. The average commute is roughly 20 minutes to NUMC and GSH. Housing is available for your Memorial Sloan Kettering rotation.
Living on Long Island offers the best of both worlds--easy access to NYC and a wide range of local activities. Manhattan is just a 40 minute train ride away, making it simple to catch a concert or a Knicks/Rangers game at MSG, Yankees or Mets game, or spend a night on Broadway. To the East, the North Fork wineries are about 1.5 hours away and perfect for weekend tastings. A 3 hour drive opens the door to Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Vermont, where many residents enjoy trips to Newport for sightseeing or to Stowe for skiing and snowboarding.
